The B48 breathes properly once the factory catalytic downpipe comes off.

The B48 is BMW's 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder, and it runs right through the F and G series range, from the 220i and the 320i to the 430i, the Z4 and the Toyota GR Supra 2.0. From the factory the first section after the turbo carries a catalytic converter, and that section is the tightest point in the whole exhaust path before the gas ever reaches the mid pipe. This WSTN Performance catless downpipe replaces it with a straight through stainless steel assembly, shielded along the main run, with the flange and sensor connections kept where the car expects to find them.

It is a focused change at the turbo outlet, not a replacement rear exhaust. Everything behind the downpipe stays exactly as it is, which is what makes this the first step in a B48 exhaust build and the one that opens the most restricted section of the system.

Why Upgrade?

A catless flow path: The catalytic element is gone, so the pipe runs straight through from the turbo outlet to the mid pipe connection. This is the direct, catalyst free configuration for a track or competition build.

Sharper response: The downpipe sits immediately behind the turbo, so opening up this section is felt in how quickly the B48 picks up and how freely it carries through the mid range.

A harder note: Taking the catalytic section out of the pipe changes the character of the exhaust, giving the four cylinder a fuller tone that the factory downpipe absorbs before it leaves the engine bay.

Shielding over the hot section: Woven metallic shielding wraps the pipework along the hottest part of the run, while the flange faces and the outlet stay exposed for assembly.

Braided flex section: A braided flex joint sits in the run, so the assembly moves with the engine and driveline instead of sitting rigid between two fixed points.

Factory connection points: A flanged turbo side connection, a sensor port and a mounting bracket are part of the assembly, so it goes back where the original section came out.

Installation

Professional fitting by a workshop with exhaust experience is recommended. The car needs to be raised for access to the turbo outlet, and the sensor connection should be transferred and seated before anything is finally tightened. Have the workshop check flange alignment, clearance around the shielded section and the mid pipe connection, then re check every joint once the car has been run up to temperature.

Disclaimer: Intended for track and competition use only. Compliance with local emissions regulations is the buyer's responsibility.

Why WSTN Performance?

We double check every fitment before it ships, send through your model, year and VIN and we will tell you straight whether this part is right for it.

Heat Shielding

Cooler engine bay: The shield blocks radiant heat coming off the pipe, so the bay around the downpipe runs cooler than it would with bare stainless.

Less heat soak: Hoses, wiring, sensors and intake components sitting near the exhaust run take on less heat.

Easier on heat-sensitive parts: Less constant heat exposure on nearby rubber and plastic parts, which helps them hold up over time.

Factory approach: The same principle used on factory exhaust systems, a barrier between hot metal and the rest of the bay.

Heat stays in the pipe: Keeping heat in the exhaust stream instead of radiating it out supports flow through the pipe.

FAQ

Every system we build is vehicle-specific. If you're unsure, reach out before ordering with your make, model, year, and any relevant modifications or click the "Fitment Check" box on this page - we'll confirm fitment before you spend a dollar.

It depends on what's been changed. upgraded turbo, upgraded mid pipe or prior exhaust modifications can all affect fitment. Our exhaust systems/downpipes are designed to fit vehicles stock, from factory. Contact us with your build details and we'll advise honestly.

We work with premium-grade T304 stainless steel and titanium alloy depending on the application. Material specs are listed on each product page

We're built to the same standard, the same materials, the same fabrication quality, the same attention to fitment and finish. The difference is we're not charging you for a badge. You're paying for the product.

Sound level varies by product, vehicle, and configuration. Where available, we've included sound references on the product page. If you want to know what a specific system sounds like on your car, reach out - we'll point you in the right direction.

A properly designed exhaust system reduces back pressure and improves flow - which typically translates to real performance gains. Our downpipes in particular are designed to let turbocharged engines breathe properly. Specific gains depend on your vehicle and tune.

Road legality varies by state, country, and vehicle. It's your responsibility to confirm compliance with your local regulations before fitting. We can advise on the product side, but we can't make that determination for you.

Items listed and in stock ship in 2-3 days. Hand built to order lead times vary by product and are listed on each product page. We'll send you an update at each stage so you're never left wondering where things are.
